🔥 Tier 1 - Must KnowID: mediaBrief
Media Brief
The requirements document that guides the media planner or agency
In Simple Words (Zero Jargon):
The instruction sheet given to the media team stating the business goal, target audience, budget, and deadlines so they can build the media plan.
Why It Is Critical
A media brief is the input document written by the client/brand team that defines the problem to be solved. A poor brief leads to misaligned media buys. A strong brief specifies the objective (e.g. acquire 500 customers under ₹1,200 CAC) without prematurely prescribing channels.
Calculation Example & Benchmark Matrix
| Brief Section | What It Should Specify |
|---|---|
| Campaign Objective | The single most important measurable outcome (e.g. revenue, leads, CAC target) |
| Target Audience | Demographic, psychographic, and behavioural parameters |
| Key Message | The core thought or action we want the audience to take |
| Budget & Period | Gross vs net budget, flighting dates, and must-hit event periods |
| Constraints & Assets | Available creative formats (video, static, UGC) and channel restrictions |
What You Get: A clear, specific, strategy-enabling document that gives a media planner everything they need to build a plan - and nothing that constrains their thinking unnecessarily.
